Many are not poor at all, aside from needing a forever home. Some come to us due to a human family issue like divorce, elderly being put in nursing homes, or passing away, or people moving into apartments and not making sure they're allowed to have pets etc.

We have gotten in many young shelties that turned out to be great agility and herding dogs.

Check out your local rescues...they have some awesome pets just needing homes.

I encourage everyone considering getting a new dog to adopt. There are so many wonderful dogs out there that need homes. My family has rescued 4 shelties over the past 15 years and they have brought us so much joy. :)

I have two Shelties and I can honestly say that not matter what kind of issues I come across, I would never be able to let go of them. They are my heart.

Like Autumn said, I also wish I'd adopted a rescue animal rather than buying a puppy. Live and learn, I guess. I just assumed (stupid, I know), that rescued animals were troubled pets. Now I know differently.

My parents have had a sheltie since before i was born and she died when she was 12, its been a year now and i've finally convinced my parents to get a new sheltie

Wish I had adopted instead of supporting an obvious to me now puppy farm as both of my shelties have serious problems problems physically......I will love them forever but I have learned to adopt from here on out.....
