Spirit Airlines Starts Daily Non-Stop Service Between
Oakland/San Francisco, California and Las Vegas
--$17 Fares Available at www.spirit.com--
Miramar, Florida (August 18, 2011) -- Spirit Airlines (Nasdaq: SAVE) today starts two daily non-stop flights between Oakland International Airport serving the Oakland/San Francisco Bay Area and Las Vegas. Service will increase to three daily non-stop flights on September 7, 2011.

To celebrate, Spirit is offering $17 fares* (each way based on round trip purchase) at www.spirit.com available today through Saturday.

"We are excited to be giving consumers from Oakland and the entire San Francisco Bay Area and Las Vegas the opportunity to save money on travel. Our ultra low base fares with a range of optional services for a fee allows customers the freedom to choose only the extras they value," said Mark Kopczak, Spirit's Senior Director Network Planning.

"Oakland International Airport is thrilled to welcome Spirit Airlines and we're delighted that they have selected OAK as their gateway of choice to the San Francisco Bay Area," said Deborah Ale Flint, Director of Aviation for the Port of Oakland, which owns and operates OAK. "Spirit Airlines' unique a la carte pricing - from big seats up front to options for onboard amenities and for checked or carry-on bags -- allows customers to tailor their travel experience to their individual needs. We think this is a winning formula for the savvy Bay Area traveler," she continued.

"We are pleased to partner once again with Spirit Airlines," said Cathy Tull, senior vice president of marketing for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. "Las Vegas is a popular destination for both leisure and business travelers, and these new flights provide those in Oakland with another easy way to get here."

  • Oakland welcomes the "Walmart and McDonalds" of airlines.

In all honesty though, if you can understand the Spirit "system" its not a bad airline.

OAK is my favorite of the 3 major bay area airports (I should say 2, Mineta is a joke lol.) OAK is convenient, on-time and has that small airport feel even though its a huge airport. They do a great job there. I hope Spirit doesn't ruin OAKs good reputation, because Spirit has a bad rep in some places.
