Interview clip with Doug Shultz, the filmmaker behind the documentary "Silence of the Bees". The film is the season premiere of the celebrated PBS program NATURE, and it is the first film to internationally chronicle the devastating disappearance of bees worldwide, in a syndrome known as colony collapse disorder. The film also uniquely demonstrates how vital bees are to our agricultural production, and how their disappearance is a real threat to food production in the US and around the world.

  • Nature and NOVA are the best things about PBS. Sooo much better than the sensationalist ratings-based stuff on discovery channel.

  • Doug Shultz you have revealed to the world the importance of these creatures. I used to raise honeybees when I was a child living at home. It was my first connection with nature and I loved it so. THANK YOU! THANK YOU, Doug for your effort in bringing this awareness to all of us.

  • Saw the program last night and i was very disturbed by it. Man claims to be the intelligent being on earth, well we've really made a mess of it now. Weather its down to pesticides or EMP's we have a major problem.

  • I have been very interested in this phenomenon. My studies have led me to believe that the problem has mostly to do with a fungus. Its interesting that the die-off of frogs of recent history was also due to a fungus. Climate change could be a factor in this.

  • This is quite interesting, a symptom that we all need to be aware of. What next?

  • Millions of Bees Die - Are Electromagnetic Signals To Blame?

".... what would make them disoriented? Perhaps it is the 250 HZ signals being pumped out of GWEN stations all over America.... signal will induce a misdirection of up to 10 degrees in the navigation ability of the honeybee. They go away from the hive and never come back because they can no longer find it. That's why it's only happening in the US."

  • tobaco companies have put their product into the pesticides killing the bees contaminating the honey which no insect wants.

  • Not really, sorry. But you can go nature's website and find out about this crisis.

  • Is this online anywhere? I missed it. :(

  • The Nature program made no mention of genetically modified pollen as a likely cause of CCD, but it showed how just about every other possible cause could not be the source of the problem. This shameful omission indicates the power of the biotech companies to control informtaion.
