Two rare excerpts of La Traviata from the famous Australia tour, in 1965, that marked the establishment of the legendary Opera couple Joan Sutherland-Luciano Pavarotti and his definitive ascension as an opera star.

This is a tribute to Pavarotti's generous personality and great artistry on the sad occasion of his death. From now on this video is also a tribute to Joan Sutherland, one of the most legendary singers ever and perhaps the most consistently great singer of the past century. Also take this beautiful and historic interpretation as a perfect reminder of what artists can achieve when they there is true confidence and friendship between them

LUCIANO PAVAROTTI (1935-2007) and DAME JOAN SUTHERLAND (1926-2010)
Rest in Peace!

  • Pavarotti studied under the very best. He learned his breathing techniques under her. She showed him "control"...to be able to sing multiple engagements in a short period of time...something he could not do before he partnered with her. What a fabulous time of his then young life...They were fabulous together!

Thank you for sharing this video.

  • @bjornthesinger

Joan came to a concert in Atlanta once, and brought out her music stand and sang from the music. Didn't see her face much. Guess she has a memory problem.

  • Loved.

  • @JuanitaNadie Of course not! :D

  • The duo is absolutely splendid! Thank you for sharing these recordings!

  • Alfredo...La Traviata...Timeless Love...Sutherland & Pavarotti, Legendary Opera Stars!

  • They were in such spectacular voice. However, the stage floor mike picking up the prompter is hilarious. Such was the case when broadcasts had to picked up since there weren't microphones all over the stage and house!

  • Thank you thank you thank you for making this magic (and history) available to us!
