Seychellois Youngsters showcasing the Sega Dance in Europe. The sega is the most common Seychellois Dance. While the KAMTOLE is the older traditional dance and technically more difficult, the Sega is more relaxed and gives the dancer more artistic licence, It primarily involves tip toeing on one foot while sliding the other and swaying your hips at the same time. The SEGA is a very rythmic dance. The Mauritians also has the SEGA as their national dance.
A long time ago there was a song by Micky Mancham called "Mon return Mahe" Sadly he was killed in a scooter accident. Anyone old enough to remember that song?
Even in the 1970s I had to find older women to dance sega with as the younger ones did not seem to know how it used to be danced.
The Maurician sega is nothing like the old Seychellois sega.

Sega is a variation of the traditional dance 'Moutia'. It is very symbollic of Seychelles, Mauritius and Reunion. No it's not 'the' traditional dance but it's as good as.
