For me, cooking at home usually consists of throwing a couple of hamburger patties in a frying pan. The last thing I want to do at the end of a long day is prepare a long meal. When I sat down with Alexa to discuss her segment I wanted to create something that even I could use at home. This $10 in 10 Minute segment hits the mark. Easy to prepare and cost effective, Alexa's stromboli was designed for people just like me. Give it a shot and Discover the Fairway Chef in You. Enjoy.
Alexa's Stromboli
Serves 3 to 4 people
1 Fairway Fresh Baked Baguette ($1.29)
1 cup Fairway Bolognese Sauce ($2.50)
1/3 lb Fairway Fresh Pulled Mozzarella Cheese ($2.16)
2 tbsp Fairway Garlic Butter (.25)
2 oz sliced pepperoni* ($1.00)
(total ingredient cost is $7.20)
Slice the baguette lengthwise but not all the way through so that it opens like a book. Smear one side of the inside of the baguette with the garlic butter. Slice the mozzarella cheese into half circles and place it over the garlic butter. This shape allows it to cover the bread without peeking out. Place a single layer of sliced pepperoni on top of the cheese. Fill the bread with the bolognese sauce so that it now resembles a stuffed v shape like a taco.
Wrap the stromboli in aluminum foil and place in a 400-degree oven for 15-20 minutes until the bread is crisp and the cheese is all melted and gooey. Remove from oven and foil wrap. Slice into hearty wedges and serve immediately.
*You can also use other items such as ham, soppresata, mortadella, meatballs, etc. for stuffing the stromboli.
**Serving suggestion -- add a tossed green salad and some tiramisu for a complete meal.
