Even though average rainfall here is three times greater than in Madrid, only 23% of the population of the Serengeti District, in the region of Mara, have access to clean drinking water. Women and children spend 4 hours a day collecting a few litres of dirty water. This is time and effort that is not invested in work, the home or at school. In this region, water, the origin of life, is the source of the vicious circle of poverty.
