@keytek9 Because unlike most drivers who use a 9 and 3 oclock hand position. Alesi uses a more old school 10 and 2 approach. This means he's holding onto the steering wheel off axis of its mounting point which creates the flexing you see under breaking.

When I used to see the onboard footage back then, I had the exact same impression as you do. and still do.Maybe Alesi likes the steering column flexible I guess.. Cannot guess why, but it is possible.
Once I get some practice & qualifying footage from 1996 I will post some onboard laps, as they are nearly inexistant in race broadcasts or just very very short.
