Magnificent. She just sounds like she means what she is singing. And what a voice...such a lovely sound and unique timbre. I don't hear Callas all that much personally. Miricioiu is her own singer, and has already outlived La divina (and is still singing).

I don't hear any Callas in Nelly. I much more hear Deutekom in the timbre and technique.

This powerfull scene was slaughtered by the ridiculious slow tempo of the conductor in the last part - she is destroying everything and they play so indifferent. Poor conducting and the orchestra does not have the feeling for this music.. The choir also does not sound very clean.

I often find myself cringing at sopranos but this is so emotional and with such pure tone. Only an older woman who had really experienced pain and regret could sing it well. Going to see Fleming today at Met HD live. What a gift.
