the game as whole isn't bad, competitively speaking, hell yes its bad, it's like trying to play naruto clash of ninja competitively, now i know that brawl is better than clash of ninja, but what pisses me off so much is that melee could be played both casually and competitively, brawl however cannot, the thing with brawl is that you never have to practice anything because nothing requires any sort of tech skill, in ssbm you could always practice something to get better.

Alright alright. I play melee religiously pretty much but brawl ISN'T a bad game. Yes its worse than melee in the competitive play, by a lot. But alone it's not bad. And you have the reasoning for why melee is better wrong. It's not wavedashing, combos, and l-canceling... Its the risk-reward systems and pace of the game overall. Brawl is really really slow compared to melee due to airspeed and gravity; and you get punished for basically every attack you land in brawl. That's why.
