A silent black & white film sequence of the pyramids and Sphinx at Giza, Egypt from award-winning amateur filmmaker John V. Hansen's travel footage, c. 1926-1930. The Pyramids at Giza are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They are the only site from the "Seven Wonders of the Ancient World" list that are still in existence, and are an Honorary Candidate of the "New Seven Wonders of the World." The film clip is from the Human Studies Film Archives, Smithsonian Institution collection of historical moving images.

  • Salaams and gratitude for posting these insightful gems on Youtube...as an Egyptologist/archaeologist I almost felt I'd made a discovery and have recommended them to several colleagues..

  • @sistablu Thank you for your comment which validates our work. There is quite alot more footage of Egypt in this collection. If you want to learn more, contact us at HSFA@si.edu.

  • Why is there erosion on the body of the sphinx but not the head? Could it be that the body was under the ground when it was discovered and recarved to be a Pharoah's head? Why don't the Egyptian Papyrus' mention building ANYTHING? If the pyramids were tombs for pharaohs.. why were Pharaohs never found inside?

  • @tisdue

Sorry, as non-Egyptologists we cannot answer your questions. But is it not true that you can find anything on the internet these days?

  • @HSFAFilmClips

You are correct with everything and anything NOT being on the internet. All the internet is, is what people have decided to put up, and of course doesn't mean that whatever is online is always legitimate.

    Take Care,

  • @corleonefrances

Absolutely agree and would add "and what people trying to figure out what people want decided to put up." And that would be us!

  • why does it say the Sphinx is the guardian of a sacred enclosure of the 2nd pyramid?

  • @JDBernal82 you are correct this was a theory put forward about 10 years ago by someone from the UK . He theorised that a form of fabricated concrete was used. However evidence shows that the Giza pyramids were built of solid limestone blocks hand hewn from Muquatten Hill which are just outside Cairo...the marks of the masons gangs are still there till this day.

  • @tisdue So much to answer in just 500 characters...but let me just assure you all 174 pyramids were built as tombs in fact the pyramidion was still used in some form in tombs up till the Roman era .

Do a little research there is lots of info available from credible sources apart from conspiracy theorists such as Hancock, West and Buvaul

  • @tisdue

the head has been resculpted several times over...the body as well...the Sphinx has been buried up to the head and dug out several times over, as well.

i have uploaded an interesting series of vids concerning the true age of the Sphinx...you'll find them on my channel. i have created a playlist of these vids, for easier viewing. just look for "the true age of the Sphinx" in my playlists.

  • A wonderful video showing the living history of Egypt
