Ah 12bumble24, you were there! Lucky you!! Yes, I suppose this information is useful...I think there are so many interesting moves in this sequence, that it doesn't need a theme...but it does help understand the underlying motives. Thank you for the info!
If i remember correctly (and it was a *long* time ago) we were using the side step like a counter balance, or swing to build up speed and energy for a turn, and then cutting it with an ocho / forward cross or such possibility. had to keep the knees soft . hope that aids you somewhat :-)
