Where to get an inexpencive brushless DC motor? Your local junk yard! I bought this slightly used alternator from a local recking yard for 20 €, thats about 30 $. Rip out the bridge rectifier and voltage regulator, solder on some longer wires to the stator coils and to the brushess. Okay so it's not brushless yet, but it's super cheap and has tons of power! This 55 A charger has performed well as a motor and has a maximum constant power over 600 W! The peak power has been 1 KW! Thats the easy part, now just make a BLDC motorcontroller :P. Or buy one. I wan't cheap so i made one. Still not done as you can tell in the video... about 4 months it's been to get this far.. anyway enjoy the video. Oh ya the little white box with red numbers shows the motors RPM when i hold the Hall effect sensor connect to it near a neodymium magnet spinning with the axel.

  • As automotive alternators have slip rings and brushes I do not believe this would really be considered a brushless DC motor made from an alternator. You can in fact, however, run the alternator as a motor.

  • @aptosguy True, idea was to test the performance with the rotors original electromagnet to determine if it would be worth it to replace it with a permanent magnet rotor. I'm currantly in the process of makeing a permanent magnet rotor for my alternator.

  • Nice! Did you change the windings from Wye to Delta for the alternator before you run it?

  • @ffred86 No, I kept them in Y configuration. You can't run a Delta wound motor in this manner. Delta motors must be run with true 3 phase AC.

  • what is use? are you going to use this for something or just look at spin?

  • @forbearsake Learing about 3 phase motor control was the main goal during this project and to test an alternators viability as a motor.

  • @forbearsake he might make a hybrid out of the electric motors

  • where can i find bldc driver schematics?i want to run a 13v 80amp car alternator at 24v max and around 30amp

  • Hi Sir's can you suggest where can i find the schematic diagram of the driver motor that you used or something that could hold 1kw motor. Thanks! I appreciate the help

  • Nice! If anything, it makes a sweet variable speed fan! haha

  • @stinkfoot151 Monitor the stator current while raising and lowering the rotor current. The ideal rotor current at any time is when the stator current is lowest. Either side of this the stator will have either leading or lagging power factor. For more information see "Synchronous condenser" in wikipedia.

  • works better as alternator

  • what is the purpose other to see it spin, will this be applied to some piratical use

I'm not asking to be sarcastic. i just cant see spending I guess 20 euros with out any real use
