This is a demonstration of my GPS receiver that I will be using for my UAV project.

  • How do you get into constructing circuits like this? I really want to get into it but I have no idea where to start past learning about different types of components/what they do/how they work.

  • @saintforaday Well, as for the circuit design, it was based off a similar product produced by Sparkfun. I simply adapted it slightly and redid the board layout. A lot of stuff you wouldn't want to redesign from scratch, especially as a beginner. I would suggest looking at schematics for existing products. Then, learn how to use a PCB design program, such as Eagle or Kicad. Use the program to design a board based on an existing schematic. Don't be afraid to make your own changes.

  • @saintforaday Also, a lot of datasheets for various ICs contain application notes and typical operating schematics that you would want to use or adapt. The way I got started in electronics was designing my own microcontroller board based on an existing schematic. At the same time, I learned how to use Eagle.

  • wow! you're thinking of UAV? you're a threat to nasa!

  • @twgray2007 I got it from a local plumbing supply store but I think Ace Hardware sells it also.

  • @PatheticComputing OH! OK...Yes, I actually downloaded that one, gpsdiag, to look at, but the second link, which is GPS Diagnostics is the one I thought you referred to, and is no longer available.

One last question...where do you purchase the Rooto (sulphuric acid)?

Thanks. Keep up the great work.

  • @twgray2007 Just type GPS Diagnostics in Google. The first link that shows up for me is a download link from cnet.com. That is where I got it from.

  • @PatheticComputing It would appear that GPS Diagnostics is no longer available for download. The homepage shows as gpsdiagnostics.codeplex.com, but is no longer listed at codeplex.com. Could you possibly send me a copy of it?

  • @twgray2007 GPS Diagnostics

  • What is the software you are using at the end of the video to monitor the gps serial stream?
