"Yao" is a derogatory term in the Thai and Lao connotation. This term was derived from Chinese "Yao Zu" because we originated in China. When some of us migrated to Laos and Thailand, ethnocentric Thai and Lao people abused this term when they saw how "primative" we were. We are Mien/Iu-Mien, this is the correct term.

It is offending to the Great Hmong people for ignorant to use "Meo" to reference Hmong as it is incorrect. YOu may user "Miao" (young rice roots) or "Hmong" (as in the "dirt" god used to create the first human).
