Except for the recording hiss and some of the dynamic range problems involved -- the recording is otherwise fine.
RVW in spite of his being influenced by church organist tradition -- was a radical modernist like Wagner. However, with Sinphonia Antarctica and many later works post 1940 he went places with music where the 19th century composers never could.

I know exactly what you mean.. His music can grip us by the soul. The Thomas Tallis Fantasia reminds me of my early days in college. Much has changed in my life since then, and I can no longer listen to this music without getting watery-eyed..

Absolutely! Let me tell you MY story: I was trimming my hedges one Saturday afternoon, listening to a classical station on my radio headphones, when the third movement came on. I put down my trimmer, sat on the front steps and just ...listened. It carried me away like a field mouse! Never did get over it. That was @15 years ago. I've got the 5th on my music phone. Oh, managed to finish the hedges afterward, though.
