Shen Wei dancers at anthropodino

Shen Wei Dance Arts (whom you might remember from the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony) performed last night inside Ernesto Netos giant, interactive, multisensory Park Avenue Armory installation, anthropodino. Moving through the crowd to the eerie, dissonant soundtrack (haranguing bagpipe, violins), the dancers would appear and disappear, climb on each other, hop like agitated popcorn, and then collapse. Then, they all took their clothes off and writhed on the floor (they made us turn our cameras off for that). So, passing over the racist OVERtones of your post, it's true that black artists have a more difficult time trying to get their "really crappy bulls**t" clouded with "pseudo-intellectual justifications" and recognized in the same way that white artists are, and are often expected to produce so-called 'primitive' art.

However, it never hurts to know as much as possible about the artists you are seeing. This one happens to be Chinese, not white. Don't know how that fits in with your stereotyping.

No, it's just a matter of cultural differences between black and white tastes... I'm white and I say that these people are just plain insane. If they were black I'd say the exact same thing. But if you look at it without bias then I'd say that white people would probably find this more attractive than black people would find it, simply because black people don't normally do this sort of weird ass shit. x.x

I love it how white people self-congratulate themselves on really crappy bullshit and attempt to cloud it with a lot of pseudo-intellectual justificiations as "High Art". Don't let black people try to do the same thing and pass it off as high art, then it gets termed "primitive", "primal" or "outsider."
