During a press conference today at Steinert High School in Hamilton Township, Senator Tom Goodwin called for legislative hearings on a bill that would remove the decal requirement that was recently enacted as part of Kyleighs Law.
Goodwin, the sponsor of S-1908, said that a statewide repeal movement has quickly grown in opposition to the license plate decals that young drivers are now required to display on the cars they drive.
Concerned teens and parents joined the Senator to express their concerns that the decals make them less safe.
Its clear that many people feel like their concerns were not properly considered when this legislation was first enacted, said Goodwin. Ive heard from thousands of people, including both teens and parents, that they feel less safe with license plate decals on their cars.
The Senator launched an online petition less than a week ago that has already been signed more than 2,400 times. More than 500 people, mostly parents, have left comments on the petition page supporting the repeal. Additionally, Facebook groups with more than 100,000 members have joined the repeal effort. One group, entitled I Support Senator Tom Goodwin in Repealing Kyleighs Law, has more than 10,000 members.
Goodwin, a recent addition to the Senate, said he would not have voted for the bill if he had been in office when it passed last year.
Its clear that the Legislature misjudged the opposition to the decals when the bill was passed last year, added Goodwin. Their mistake is one that I intend to fix. With so many New Jerseyans in support of the repeal, I certainly hope my legislation will be given the committee hearing it deserves.

Let's face it, most drivers in NJ drive like assholes. I know, I live here.

@ajax9302 That means you care about it...
pudding312 10 months ago
@ajax9302 When you drive on a basic license, there are no restrictions. There are restrictions only for permits and provisional licenses.
pudding312 10 months ago
@pudding312 and my driving school teacher told me that after the restriction is up i cant drive after midnight so i didnt really know the law then
ajax9302 10 months ago
@ajax9302 @ajax9302 Uh you can. Once you drive on a GDL, there are no restrictions... By the way, your grammar is atrocious.

I can understand giving it to a 16 or 17 year old because there new drivers like me. But after that restricted is up we should be able to drive as long as we want when we want with as many people we want

That law is so stupid. No other state ever made this law yet. A lot of people are against it especially for young woman and for people who think they drive really carefully. It can cause some bother with other people. I'm 20 and I have an unrestricted driver license so I don't need the sticker at all.

I think this will help the police more than our safety. They'll look for any reason to pull you over. Now, they'll see the red tag and know you may not be experienced about violations, and write tickets.
