I, too, expected to hate this remake but it sneaked up and charmed a smile outta' me. Well done, Grasshopper . . .

What's up with this film? I rather pass on it and find some good stuff.

Ok, people need to just stop complaining about the "little kids getting beaten" argument... have you ever watched a real tournament with kids that age? its very much like that... please, you americans are way to conservative sometimes and about the wrong things to boot. Anyway, I think this is better than the original, better filmed, better acted and Ralph Macchio looks like a jersey lesbian... that kid is UGLY and not manly AT ALL. You could even say that the original was a lesbian love story.

I loved the movie and the kung fu the kids were doing was awesome. But China is a competitive country, so you shouldn't be surprised at how hardcore they are. I'm sure they have competitions like those out there. Why do you think their gymnasts are so amazing? They work very hard!

@Etimos im 13 and yes i have horrible spelling but really you didnt like the first then im done if you didnt like the first then theres no way yuor going to like this one.

@beebeea1 Judging from your spelling, you're either foreign, twelve, or drunk, so I can forgive you for your foolishness, but I cannot allow it to go uncorrected. No, it was not a good movie. The original was hardly a work of art, but this remake was a hollow and spineless capitulation to Will Smith's demands to put his son in a movie, any movie, regardless of how crappy it was.
The kid has a future. This movie does not.

@Etimos the moive was good what are you talking about it whent great with the origanal with some partss fo its own i liked it it was good funny and good action scenes.
You want a review of this movie? Simple:
THIS IS NOT THE KARATE KID. The title is A LIE. The only thing this movie has in common with The Karate Kid is the title, and the main villain's stupid hairstyle. Where Mr. Miyagi brought quiet, subtle exposition and character development about his sad past, Poor Jackie Chan vomits sheer dumb sentiment all over himself for HALF AN HOUR, because apparently SUBTLE isnt in the director's dictionary.
It's also not KARATE, it's KUNG FU. It's THE KUNG FU KID.
