I was walking on a trail in the Bosque when Little Dog started yapping at me and coming halfway to me from the water. I initially dismissed him as annoying but he kept coming partway to me and then returning to the little dam area, like he wanted me to come see something. I thought to myself, "No way. No way dogs actually do that in real life, that only happens on TV." But I was too curious not to check. When I got to the dam, I was astonished and sad to find his friend, Bigger Dog, trapped in an area that he couldn't escape from. That's the main point of the story: in real life dogs actually care about their friends and they will come bark at humans to get them to bring help. Not just on TV! I called the City of Albuquerque help line and they were able to get animal rescue out there in a surprisingly short amount of time, about an hour.
