ANCHOR:
At least 8 people are killed and dozens injured when two trains collided at a station east of the Bangladesh capital today. The train was carrying hundreds of passengers at the time.
STORY:
The collision has taken place at Ashuganj station in the Brahmanbaria district. Railway officials say the Upaban Express collided with a Noakhali-bound train.
[Zakir Hussain, Train Crash Survivor]:
"After the collision, I came out of the train and saw three dead people outside the train, on the platform. Later, the army soldiers and rescue workers found some more bodies."
[Abu Taher, Police Officer]:
"We have retrieved six bodies and are looking inside to see if
there are any more bodies...the rescue operation is still going on."
Police, fire and civil defence officers, as well as local volunteers are helping with the rescue operations.
Railway officials say traffic on the route has been cancelled since the accident.
