Afghan/pushtun Music. The Rubab is also played in Kashmir, and versions of the instrument are played all over Central Asia, as Leader2007 has kindly pointed out.

  • Brother, thanks for visiting. However I should point out,

Hazrat Khwaja Buzurg, Moinuddin Hasan Chishti, Sanjari Ajmeri, May God sanctify his secret! called Gharib Nawaz,

    1. was born in Sanjar [aka Sinjar & Sancar], Khorasan, not Chisht e Sharif near Herat. His grandshaykh was from Chisht so all those in the Tariqa take the name Chishti.

    2. Rabab was invented long before him.

    3. Hazrat Gharib Nawaz was a Husayni Seyed, not Tajik.

But we're all brothers & the children of Adam. Peace.

  • this guy was incredible sadly he isnt around anymore....unbelievably good rabab player!!!

  • They need to make this site deaf people friendly mainly for the 3 deaf people that voted thumbs down for this cause they couldn't hear the beautiful sounds coming out of that instrument through the means of one of the best rabab players ever.

  • @MZLTMBCJMN Okay cool I respect your opinion. Sorry I don't have the time to respond to this, I'm very busy with school.

  • @KisaiKagai, Sculptures of The Buddha playing a similar kind of instrument has been found out. In the manuscripts that instrument is referred to as the Chitra Veena. It is highly probable that this Chitra Veena was the ancestor of all these above mentioned instruments. However, this can be a hypothesis and you are free to comment upon if not shatter and debunk my argument.

  • @KisaiKagai, Other instruments which look like, have similar sound quality and are played in a posture similar to the Rubab are the Dramyen of Tibet which is known as Damphu in Nepal. The Dotara of Bengal region (consisting of India and Bangladesh) is extremely popular in Bengali folk music. Another near extinct instrument is the Swaragat or Swarabat of South India. The Sarod of Classical Raga Music is also a very close relative of the Kabuli Rubab.

  • @KisaiKagai, I have a different opinion. Rubab has its origins in India (and by India I mean the entire Indian subcontinent, in that way, even Afghans are Indians, culturally though, do not take it otherwise). During the Mughal era, the Seni Rubab used to be popular among the Hindi speaking population and was frequently played in the royal courts. You can search for Somjit Dasgupta in youtube.

  • WOW Beautiful!

  • @RumiBalkhi lol where do you get your info from. What is your evidence?

Robab was invented in central Afghanistan, Shelgar, Maqur, Qarabagh ( present day Ghazni).

  • @AhmedM85 dont cry drink cold water daddy removed his comment.
