The video shows the movement of a Victorian clock made c1860. Removed from its wonderful mahogany case for the video, the clock chimes each quarter of an hour by chiming on its 8 bells. Each quarter is longer so you know the time without looking at the clock. On the hour, it also counts on the hour on a sturdy gong (you can see the hammer moving but the gong is fitted to the case). By selecting from the hands in the arch of the dial, the clock can perform a Westmister Chime, or can be silenced.

  • Thanks to those of you who got in touch to say the sequence of the chimes was out by a quarter hour. I've since corrected the clock and put a note on the video. It was easier to check on the Westminster chimes and you were right. I may re-shoot the video if I get chance. Thanks again
