Taken from the ARMA free public website: http://www.thearma.org/Videos/swordshow121.htm

Posted in response to the video I previously uploaded.
This video shows the techniques and principles of the longsword guards and receiving strikes on the flat of the blade's strong rather than the edge.
Not only does using the flat preserve the structural integrity of the blade, the guards and longsword techniques themselves are idealized in combat when utilizing the flat of the blade in receiving blows.

  • @Astharan16

I don't know about these specific swords. But I think ARMA usually talks good about Albion swords. So my guess is that these are from Albion.

  • Where are their swords from ?

  • flat on my thong

  • @HamsterPants522 I think you still have the natural reflex to put the edge against the attack. However, after training systematic by using the flat it becomes aven more natural to protect yourself that way, especially when using the thumb grip. Sometimes i prefer to hold the blade on a way that would use the guard to stop the other sword which is difficult when you use the flat, but even then i don't have my cutting edge in a right angle to the attacker's sword...

  • LOL it sounds like fatten my shlong

  • @sjtench89 Personally I would simply block from whichever side of the blade is more accessible at the moment, the strong isn't meant to be used for much cutting anyway, so it wouldn't be a big deal to me if the blade got a little nicked if it meant not getting chopped to pieces. So I would agree with you in that regard.

  • Niceeee one

  • @HamsterPants522 also there are many times when blocking ONLY with the flat is impossible, all im saying is yes you should try to save your edge but theres a time and place fo reverything and sometimes you have to go edge v edge much as it pains me to say it

  • @HamsterPants522 while i agree clements is notorious for kicking people out of arma for not doing wxactly as historic texts state
