Today we explore Bonito flakes, a staple in Japanese Cuisine made from dried, fermented, shaved fish. The flakes are a primary ingredient in Dashi, a Japanese stock, and are wildly delicious by themselves. Todays sponsor is Kombucha Brooklyn. Check them out online at http://kombuchabrooklyn.com

  • I'm glad that I found this video. I was just watching RunnyRunny999 make a Japanese Breakfast w/ Bonito Flakes, and was trying to figure out what they are.

  • @metalbornmetalbred Well, I'm glad you found this video too! :)

  • Your video quality is very good. What camera did u use?

  • @nwl213 I shoot with a Canon 7D

  • So I just made this Dan, I didn't have the sesame seed or Turboyashi the way I thought but I had everything else...and it really is good. Taste like I am eating mackerel and egg rice -- which is something i love!

  • Alright, I might have just found one of my new favorite channels. :D

  • @umbalaba Yes, I did! They move around. You notice when he grabs the handful of flakes, a little stubborn to separate from each other, so it takes a little while? And then he sprinkles them on the food, and from the slight heat/steam, they start moving all about. It looks like Heaven! Like ethereal! You know?!

  • @danieldelaney Awsome....btw, i love bonito flakes. Love it on takoyaki as it adds flavors to them. Keep up the good work! cheers

  • dashi feeesh stock! Sorry, couldn't resist. Love your videos.

  • @umbalaba If you look carefully - the steam from the rice causes the paper thin flakes to sort of dance like a charmed snake!
