  • the most moving moment when his jaw dropped :)) would love to hear how he's doing now :))

  • @ElfOfJapan you can never be bored with sound!

  • updates please ?????

  • I love the science today, I just got lasik surgery and I now have 20/15 vision.

  • @pjasnos You speak for Jonathan' s parents...WHY? I am not interested in listening to yours, but I want to know more about what the parents of Jonathan have to say here. They choose not to reply - That tells you something! You are kidding me... you are ignorant about phone ringing, answering the door, or anything. There are many devices that signal us to answer anything like phone ringning or baby crying. Please do me a favor by letting Jonathan's parents to speak up, not YOU. Thanks.

  • @ASLeslie Also, apart from communication, hearing has other functions - he'll be able to notice a car approaching even if he can't see it. When he has children, he'll know when they need their nappy changed cause he'll hear them crying. He'll know when his phone rings even if he's reading a book. I know it's possible to live without hearing - a lot of people do that. But to me - and to Jonathan's parents - the undeniable benefits of even limited hearing outweigh the risks of getting an implant.

  • @deb512 Cohlear implant gives hearing which is far from perfect, he unfortunately will never be able to really enjoy music for instance; it's sound quality is more like an old, slightly broken telephone rather than true repair of hearing. But what's most important, he'll be able to understand speech, and hence learn a language much easier and earlier than if he was using a sign language.

  • @ASLeslie I wasn't saying speech is a language - I was saying English is, and it is a distinct language to ASL. I repeat: ASL is not just a another way of expressing English -it's a different language. Young children learn language (be it ASL or English) through exposure and, after that, through imitation. Spoken English does not require a child to focus on another person - they can play, and hear their parents, siblings, etc talk and passively learn language, which is not possible with ASL.

  • @pjasnos I guess you are hearing, that is why it is hard for you to understand that speech is NOT a language. It is more like a skill. You are wrong about simpler than in grammatical sense. ASL is more advanced than English because ASL is a cinematic language where it requires 3-D. ASL requires two hands, unlike English requires a mouth to express. English is a linear language.

  • @ASLeslie All sign languages (be it ASL or anything else) are called languages for a reason - they are different to (simpler than in grammatical sense) English. Speech has a lot to do with language learning - small children can be exposed to it much earlier than to written English, so they can learn to use it much earlier, and there are numerous studies showing that the language we use shapes the way we think.

  • @ASLeslie Honestly - they have not 'stopped videoing him' - they only have four videos in this channel, in which they wanted to share this moment - I can't see how not continuing after sharing a single event is 'stop'.

Their child needs care and attention, it's not weird they don't have time to post videos of him on youtube. And even if they do, they don't have to - it's THEIR private life.

  • @ASLeslie Don't make an argument when there isn't one. My original statement stands: A lack of video updates does not imply the implants failed. I'm not saying the implants were a success either.

  • @mathfreak123 Speech is not a language! It is more like a skill. That has nothing to do with language learning. Don't you get it? DUH!!! Please do homework before saying stupid! Thanks.

  • @mathfreak123 OHHHHHH yes... Come on!! There is always having side effect on any kind of surgery. How dare do you dare that? It is clear that the parents of JONATHAN know the truth about cochlear implants: they are FALSE HOPE. I do hope they learn American Sign Language for Jonathan's SAKE, not parents's sake! Thanks.

  • @mathfreak123 OHHHH YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSs

  • @ASLeslie A lack of video updates does not imply the implants failed.

  • The question for you is how is your son doing since TWO YEARS AGO? Why did you stop videoing on him? It looks like the cochlear implant is not doing so good for your son. Thanks.

  • I love this! he is so sweet. Im so amazed they can do this. it really is a miracle.

  • @ElfOfJapan Shut up, don't you think this is the greatest gift for him and his parents. Don't say such stupid thing, idiot.

  • he's so cute =)

  • wish Jonny all the best How is he?

  • wish Jonny all the best

  • @ElfOfJapan No he is not! You are an idiot.

  • Out pops the passy!!! And that little smile comes out to play!!!

  • Johnathan is bored with sound now.
