As the Nazis begin their rise to power in Germany in the early 1930's, American writer Clifford Bradshaw visits Berlin. After making a few friends and finding housing, Clifford visits the sleazy Kit Kat Club and meets an English singer, Sally Bowles. The writer and singer soon fall in love. Meanwhile, Clifford's elderly landlord, Fraulein Schneider, gets engaged to a Jewish greengrocer, Herr Schultz -- not an easy decision given the increasing influence of the Nazis. Soon, Clifford discovers that he has been inadvertently helping the Nazis by delivering packages to Paris for a German friend of his, Ernst Ludwig.

First seen on Broadway in 1967, the original production of CABARET won 8 Tony awards, including Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Featured Actor (Joel Grey). The show was revived in NYC in 1987, and again most recently in 1998 with Natasha Richardson and Alan Cumming. A film adaptation was directed by Bob Fosse with stars Liza Minelli, Michael York, and Joel Grey. Songs include "Wilkommen", "Maybe This Time," "Two Ladies," "Money," "Married," and "Cabaret."

This inaugural production of the Los Angeles Valley College Summerfest is directed by Cathy Susan Pyles, with musical direction by Patricia Hannifan, vocal coaching and "after-Cabaret" direction by Christian Nova, and choreography by Carla Lubow.
