We are riding the Ober Gatlinburg Tram back down to Gatlinburg, Tennessee on October 23rd, 2008. There's about 100 people riding this tram, the max capacity is 120 people. The Tram traveles up and down from Gatlinburg to Mt. Harrison in the Smokey Mountains which this particular mountains' elevation is 2700 feet. The trip takes about 10 minutes and the top speed is 23 mph. traveling a distance of 2.1 miles and costs $10 round trip per adult. Every time the Tram goes over one of the cable towers, the tram car dips down a little departing the tower top causing all the whoa's and woowee's. A little scarey at first but very safe! At the top there is an amusement park complete with a food court, indoor ice skating, a Black Bear wildlife encounter, Arcade, Alpine Slide (like riding a large skateboard on wheels down a concrete chute-YIKES!!!), a Bungee Run, Water Rides and Kiddie Land. Also, there's a very scenic chairlift on Mt. Harrison that takes you up even higher to the pinnacle! That lift ride takes 15 minutes and it is breath-taking in so many ways! It's the longest chairlift ride in the south and costs only $7 round trip. It's a GREAT experience and I highly recommend it to everyone! The Smokey Mountains are sooo beautiful and photo opportunities are endless.
I ride the Ober Gatlinburg every time I'm in Gatlinburg--and that has been often. I especially like the "sky and earth" view.

I went on this Tram ride a couple years ago and it was really fun and amazing! The view is very beautiful in the winter when it snows.
