The importance of this lake, and the underwater scenes, is that this lake is notable as meromictic. Scientists study it for clues about what the oceans were like millions of years ago during a period of mass extinction.
The reason fishing is horrible there is that the oxygen layer is not very deep, and if fish cross the boundary layer they will die.
The only fish in there would likely have swum in from somewhere else. The camera was a robot so of course it would seem dull and lifeless.
Spent most of my teenage years partying on the point. It was always fun passing word up the path when the park rangers were on their way to bust up party and make sure we weren't swimming in non swim area.
Didn't retreat just made sure we were on solid ground and everything was out of sight. The point I am referring to is the one that is on the bath house side of the lake just down the hill from the golf course.
