THIS VIDEO IS (CC)--CREATIVE COMMONS. PARKDALE/TORONTO RESIDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO EMBED THIS ON THEIR SITES.
Today's news is that we have been de-beached. Bedbugs still run rampant and the city does little to avoid them.
Also, see our community heroes help the neighbourhood get re-beached even when at the risk of being declared "insane" or being arrested for helping people cross the street.
Parkdale is a diverse vibrant Toronto community that receives little attention until disaster strikes or tourists zoom through searching for art shows or slumming.
Close to 50% of the residents live below the poverty line. Many are physically or mentally disabled. Immigrants and the working poor tend to make up the majority of the rest of the population.
Some middle class people move here for bargain real estate.
There's something here that relates to EVERY community!
Even if you're not from Parkdale *any* community can learn to demand political change, and deal with poverty struggles that plague today's communities, as our Parkdale heroes show!
...and we tend to be whimsical...

More injury/insult is that the free public phone was removed from the Parkdale Library approximately one week ago. The excuse was "funding constraints" & alleged complaint(s) about an incident re a user or users. However, during my 2 month housing search, all I ever encounered was the utmost consideration & patience from everyone who waited to use this vital service.

They pulled all the payphones outta DaHood "in case" the drug dealers use them. They pulled out all the benches for older people and communal discourse because the "homeless might sleep on them"
Jaysus Tapdancing Christ--Dealers can get cheap cell-phones and the homeless can't levitate and now the grannies have nowhere to stop and sit with their bundle buggies and the restaurants have to buy their own benches.
Utter hogwash.
