So ... That IS Michael Feinstein singing, right? Personally I might change the title of this video to say "Performed by Michael Feinstein and interpreted by Brian Orser." but maybe that's just me. My partner of 12 years announced last night that he would be leaving me and moving out. I'm devastated ... And I remembered this song from years and years ago -- 1989 at least -- on Michael's "Live At The Algonquin" album... It helped me get through the death of a close friend at the time, and it is h
I first heard this song performed by Feinstein. Since then I've heard the Shirley Horn version. I prefer Feinstein, by a lot. Many of my friends who I respect a lot, prefer Horn's version. Maybe it's just that I heard Michael first. But to me Shirley's version seems flat and down. Michael's version seems responsive to the lyrics. Thoughts?
@iamintheburg Thanks for recognizing the talent of Shirley Horn. She had so many brilliant recordings. And I count her amongst the top non-classical vocalists I have ever heard. Sometimes, the words she sings just flow right through her into our imaginings of what life could be like. I was fortunate to see her in concert once, Never again.
But this video is about the brilliance of Brian Orser and Michael Feinstein working together to create a great show on ice. Fantastic!
Lovely.....

Another great rendition of Where Do You Start is Jack Jones singing and Mike Renzi backing him up on piano, downloadable from Amazon.

@prixator You're so right. Ms. Horn's performance will take your heart and push it into your throat. She makes my soul ache.
