03 La Cucaracha

"La Cucaracha", or "the cockroach", is a traditional Spanish folk song that became popular during the Mexican Revolution, which lasted from 1910 to 1921. The most popular out of the many explanations behind the piece, is that it is a reference to the car of the famous revolutionary general Pancho Villa. During the revolution, the car broke down so frequently that it was able to earn itself the nickname of "La Cucaracha" from Villa's troops. Despite the ambiguity surrounding its origin, the piece is still a popular dance piece in Mexico.
