The audio for this video was taken from two different real Vietnam helicopter rescues, and one helicopter gunship cockpit recording. Although the video is a bit of fun, it has a serious point. The Jolly Green Giant helicopter crews with the help of Skyraider ground attack plane's (Sandy's) did this for real, and took heavy losses trying to save the lives of downed pilot's. The Jolly's motto was 'THAT OTHERS MAY LIVE'. Throughout the Vietnam War they flew low and slow into enemy fire, saving hundreds of lives and sacrificing their own, so that others may live.
This video was inspired by 3 books, that gave 3 different perspectives of one of the most famous and largest rescue missions of the Vietnam war: The rescue of Streetcar 304.
In 1968 Lt. Kenny Fields (Streetcar 304) was a Navy A-7 Corsair pilot that got shot down over Laos on his first mission. The area was home to an entire North Vietnamese Division and Phatet Lao guerillas. Fields used his escape and evasion skills, and narrowly missed being captured and killed several times, including by his own side, for 40 hours on the run in the jungle. Everytime a rescue was attempted, they would get shot up and the rescue was called off. Before it was over, the US Air Force had flown 189 sorties to rescue Fields and in the process, four pilots had ejected, one helicopter and seven planes were lost or heavily damaged, and one pilot became a POW for five years. All to rescue one man!
This video is dedicated to Dave Richardson (JOLLY 09), the HH-3 Jolly Green Giant helicopter pilot that volunteered to fly into the valley of death and through a hail of enemy fire, against all odds, and rescue STREETCAR 304. A true hero. This is his website:

If you want to read more about this mission the following books are recommended:
The Rescue of Streetcar 304: A Navy Pilot's Forty Hours on the Run in Laos by Kenny Wayne Fields. (Corsair pilot)
Vietnam air rescues by Dave Richardson (Jolly pilot)
Cheating Death: Combat Air Rescues in Vietnam and Laos by George J. Marrett (Skyraider pilot)

Actually Im British. Im afraid I cannot stand the adoration of the military that your country (and mine) indulge in. Regarding toy soldiers falling over - if thats all it is, then fine - why dont you make a video of american helicopters getting shot out of the sky by Vietnamese anit-aircraft fire, all to the sound of a cool beat?

@alphacen1 - This video is supposed to be a fun, historical reenactment of an actual mission, and to honor a very brave man who put his life on the line to save the life of a complete stranger. Its hard luck if you dont like the outcome, and im not going to make a video of your Vietcong friends skinning alive American helicopter pilots, just to please you! Im not the slightest bit interested in your anti military, tree hugging views, and your not hijacking my page for a politcal debate!

Congratulations, another few dead Vietnamese to add to the million plus you killed. Something to be proud of - after all they were just commies.

@alphacen1 - Coming from a nation that tortured and murdered 6 million innocent Jews, you seem to be a bit touchy watching toy soldiers falling over!!! Something to be proud of.

just have a quick question about the Jolly Greens, those wouldn't happen to be the older verisons of the MH-53 Pave Low would they? Or do you mean a squadron rather than a specific helo.

@nekonaru16 - Yes , you are right- the Pave low is a direct decendent of the older generation HH-3 Jolly green giant and HH-53 Super jolly green giant helicopters. These helicopters are ideal for the combat search and rescue role due to their long range abilty. Thanks for watching
