Alot of fuss was made when Daniel Radcliffe appeared in Equus in London. The same sort of fuss is being attempted with Alfie Allen, appearing in the play in some seaside resort theatre in the middle of nowhere.
With all that X-Factorlike Barnumesque fuss being made, let's put this into a bit of perspective, shall we?
This movie was how Shaffer's work was supposed to be seen. It was written by a giant, directed by a giant, and in Richard Burton it had a giant in the forefront, leading a pack of some of the most capable and talented actors around, not least Peter Firth, who gave a mesmeric performance as Alan Strang.
No one is saying "forget the play". Just watch the film and judge for your self who has real talent and what constitutes a real star.

When my friend told me it was a play about a naked man who fell in love with a horse, of course, i laughed and thought it was wierd, but that's because yeah, it sounded wierd, but f you really look at it, it's almost phenomenal *--*
