CA991 from Beijing-Vancouver (July 2) was delayed again for more than 20 hours! The excuse was because of a volcano eruption somewhere on-route in Russia. However, Air Canada that takes the same route from Beijing-Vancouver went on time without any problem. The way Air China handled the incidence was totally incompetent. The passengers were only told to be taken to a hotel 6 hours past the departure time (at 9 pm). The hotel room and food was terrible. The next morning, the passengers need to wait at the airport for hours without getting exact instruction until finally boarded at around 10 am. The plane finally took off around 11 am, more than 20 hours past the original departure time. The whole proccess was totally chaotic. They sent their people totally unaware of what going on to talk to passengers, and there was no English translation for passengers whose native language was not chinese.

The take home messenge is that DO NOT TAKE AIR CHINA if you don't have to. Because when I googled the airline, they have had several such incidents in the past and they are known to be NOT ON TIME.

  • Jesus Christ. CHINA AIRLINES IS DIFFERENT FROM AIR CHINA

  • just want to say that volcanic activity is extremely dangerous to fly anywhere near and it's possible that the equipment AC was using either didn't have the range to go well around or it could have been cheaper for them to delay then to reroute. Never the less, volcanic ash is not something to take lightly as it will cause total engine failure that is unrecoverable in a very short amount of time, plus it looks exactly like any other cloud when far from the eruption. Really, they kept you safe

  • 4 years later. July 3, 2011. Flight CA991 from beijing to Vancouver, original departure time, 13:50, delayed once to 16:50, delayed again to 18:00. Still waiting.

  • @cayodomingues really ?

  • THIS IS WHAT AIR CHINA IS BEST OF, BEING DELAYED ALL THE TIME!!!!

  • @goshem

can't see how better your english is and you should probably consider retake basic elementary school sucker

  • remember what happened to BA flight 9

  • That's right.

China Airline is from Republic of China (aka Taiwan)

and Air China is from People's Republic of China (aka Communist China)

  • I work for Air China at the Brazilian International Airport, and it has never delayed (actually, it has delayed one time, but for just 20 minutes). But we have only 3 flights per week only.

  • you know if they didn't delay this flight and fly right through the volcano you'd be dead the engines would fail because of the ash so they are trying to keep you safe really

  • Chinese airlines sucks n always delay
