On 04/11/07 whilst descending mighty SKIDDAW, I met an elderly gent. He said he was 'in training' for the Rememberance Service on Great Gable. It transpired he had been training as a Commando in WW2 when he broke his leg badly. He ended up as a Beachmaster with the RN in the Far East. He liberated a Japanese POW camp where Royal Marines captured when HMS Repulse & Prince Of Wales were sunk in 1942 were held. He was an amazing character-EIGHTY FOUR years old & fit as a fiddle! What a HERO!
