  • Thank you so much for responding so quickly! Where can I find one of those Doctors? Could I just go to my family doctor? Or is there a Special place? lol I'm sorry I'm just clueless about this stuff. :( Have you heard of the Dr. Sholls thing where you stand on it and it tells you what kind of insert you need... do you think that's full of crap?

  • Your family doctor will not know much about this part of the body, especially foot structure issues, but can refer you to a podiatrist. Or simply google 'podiatrist' in your zip code, talk to friends etc. The Dr. Scholl's device is a bare bones scanner that simply measures your foot size and possibly arch, and recommends a very basic limited support insert based on that. At $50 they are pricey, and in my opinion not worth it. See a podiatrist for a better option.

  • I have a question... I have a pair of Nike Shox and I just recently got a job at Sweetwater's Donut mill. After working 6+ hours a day, I get home and I can barely walk because my feet are flat and where the arch of my foot should be, hurts SO bad, I almost cry. I did the test with my shoes to see if they bent in the right place and didnt twist too much and even the heal sturdy-ness. It seems to fit the match of a good shoe. Do you think I just need Gel Inserts? Please resond... I'm Desperate!!!

  • Shoes are only part of the picture with flat feet. You also need a good insert to actually support the arch by direct contact with the foot, as the shoe does not provide much of that support. Gel inserts/ drug store inserts are useless for those with true flat feet, as the cushiony material will compress with body weight, and hard store-bought inserts from expensive arch support stores can hit the arch imprecisely, leading to pain. See a podiatrist for real prescription orthotics.
