The song, Dear Mr. Jesus, was recorded in September 1985 by Sharon Batts. At the age of nine, the third grader's tiny voice touched our hearts as she sang to Jesus about the beating of another girl; how it scared her and her request to him, please don't let them hurt your children.

Please join me in a prayer for all that suffer from abuse past and present and for the caring hands that are counted on to guide and protect Gods children.

Heavenly Father we come to You today in prayer for those that are being or have been abused. We know there is neither shadow that veils nor hidden thing that your Light cannot pierce.

Lord we ask you to look kindly on those that have been denied the gift of a happy and safe harbor. Please protect them from neglect and abuse; may they find comfort in Your love.

Father, guide those that have endured to find courage to overcome so that they may learn to love and trust. We ask you to grant kindness and wisdom to those that have been entrusted in the care of your children.

We ask all this in your Great Name. Amen

Last year 3,000,000 cases of child abuse and neglect were reported in this country; and as a result of abuse 2,000 children died. As the bible says, behold, children are a gift of the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward; thus we must protect our children, it is a community responsibility. Most adults want to help children and their families, but are unsure how to get involved. Remember, the love we have for those around us is an indication of the strength of our Christian walk. Learning the appropriate ways to respond to suspected maltreatment and becoming an informed and involved member of your community are important first steps toward protecting children. Remember, it is the responsibility of all of us.

To report suspected abuse or neglect, contact your local child welfare agency. Depending on where you live, this agency might be called Department of Social Services, Children and Family Services or Human Welfare.

I just want parents to realize that there is more than just physical abuse. Growing up in a verbal and emontionaly abused home, I try not to let history repeat itself. I thank God everyday for my life, just wish that it went a litlle differently, but then again, I beleive that God has a plan for me. I pray for all the childeren in the world to have a roof over their head, clothes on thier back, and someone to love them.
