Just a short hop over to Block Island with a friend for a bite to eat. Originally we had wanted to fly farther East (KPVC or KMVY) but due to a large forest fire in Canada there was smoke blowing South and causing IFR conditions throughout those areas.
During my pre-flight weather briefing I was advised that the haze was holding East of Block Island, so we decided to head over that way and see how things looked. Along the route of flight it was clear, however we could definitely see the haze layer to the West and North.
While eating an outdoor lunch on Block Island I had a clear view to the Northwest and could definitely see that the haze layer was moving closer. We rushed to finish and, sure enough, climbing through 800ft. on takeoff we hit the haze. Fortunately it was just the leading edge of it and it only caused a slight reduction in visibility. At about 1,100ft. we were above it and quickly out pacing it.
A lesson well learned in monitoring the situation "as it unfolds" and not relying solely on what something is forecast to do.
And yes, this flight did take place 5 months prior to the date of its posting on YouTube. I was very behind in getting this one edited. I will be filming more flights in the very near future so stay tuned!!

Cool, never been to N23. Is this your first airplane to own? Did you learn at KBDR?

@flyipjs Yes, first plane....No, I didn't train at KBDR. I did my primary training at Republic (KFRG) back in 2000/2001. Doing my instrument training with a private CFII who also owns a plane at KBDR. Despite this being my first plane, I think we will be together for a long time. It's perfect for the type and frequency of flying I do.

I understand that! When is your next video?

@flyipjs Well I recorded a flight to Sidney Minicipal (N23) on September 10th. I am waiting for some replacement cooling fans and a heat sink for my laptop. I cannot do anything graphic intensive right now or it overheats. Plus I'll be in Asia for two weeks starting this Wednesday, so hopefully I'll have the new video completed sometime in mid-October.
