Anyone know how this dance was done? I've seen different versions: basically people do a sort of rocking "Popeye the Sailor" walk while moving their arms / elbows back and forth... and going around in circles at "alley cat... " and then doing a line during the instrumental break...
"Pop Pop Pop - Pie" was The Sherrys first of two chart hits (the other was "Slop Time"). "Pop Pop Pop - Pie" spent eight weeks on the hit parade and peaked at #35 following it's debut the week of October 6, 1962.
This song has now been re-done by the Japanese all-female band Thee 50's High-Teens. I heard that version on the RODNEY BINGENHEIMER SHOW just a day ago.
Isn't this band from New Orleans? And a connection with the "Popeye" character,
LOL!! (Maybe the song title was changed for copyright reasons??)
They were playing this song when I walked into my first junior high dance. They were playing 45's on a record player in the gym and doing a line dance to it. It was before the Beatles, and just a little bit before the twist. This was absolutely my first exposure to pop music, dancing, and girls. Well, girls outside of school.
not heard this one in a long time, thanks for the share Vince. Carl
