  • Wow - I never thought about what would happen to my pet if we were involved in an accident. Thank you for posting this, I'm going to get the seatbelt.

  • @redvelvetrose Sorry, not trying to bash, but I ran out of room. Here's a video (copy and paste into a youtube URL) of what happens to a typical crate in a crash. Flying kitty. :(

  • @mfskarphedin No, I know no bashing is intended. I wasn't clear. My cats are usually in their carrier, which is on the floor, wedged between the back seat and the back of the front seat. So, unless the car is completely crushed, they are safe. Plus, they have blankets and soft towels in the carrier with them, so if they got tossed around inside the crate, it would be really difficult to hurt themselves.

  • @redvelvetrose Animals are often killed INSIDE their crates in crashes; what would happen to your cat hitting the windshield at 70mph? Same inside a hard plastic box than outside it. Crates have also been crushed, fly out the window onto the road, etc. There's one story on Ruff Rider's website of a crate that went off a bridge during an accident, killing the dog inside. The 4 dogs in harnesses were saved. Crates aren't always a guarantee of safety.

    Also, airbags can kill them.

  • My kitties are always in their hard plastic airline crates when they have to go in the car.

  • The safest way to transport your dog is in a crate, with the crate tied/lashed down. The next-best way is with a doggy seat belt. Also, don't leave your dog in front of an airbag - this video does not show that but they can serious injure or even kill a dog in front of them.

  • Good video. I want to throttle those who claim to love their pets then allow them to roam, ride laps or put that stupid gate in the cargo area preventing the dog from getting in the back or front seats. That is not protection. When there is an accident and your dog is killed by ejection and tumbling around the cargo, how "loving" are you then? My 60 pnd dog is buckled my 10pnd in a booster. All sizes can be buckled. If your worried about seats get seat covers. NO Gates Laps or Excuses!

  • Very cool. Never thought about pet seat belts.
