A performance of the last part of Jennifer Griffith's "The Reed" by Grace & Spiritus Chorale of Brooklyn on May 23rd 2010 at the Old Reformed Church in Brooklyn, New York. "The Reed" is a work in three parts for chorus, piano, tenor soloist, soprano soloist, clarinet, viola, cello, percussion and narrator, based upon the Prologue to the Mansnavi by Jalaluddin Mohammad Rumi (1207-1273 CE) in a translation by Zahra Partovi.
The instrumentalists and soloists were: Sarah Nelson Craft, mezzo soprano; James Ruff, tenor; Jason Asbury, piano; Anna Maria Baeza, clarinetist; Eran Sykes, violist; Joachim Woitun, cellist; Cory Bracken, percussionist; and Sadreddin Mostafavi Shahab, narrator. James Busby, Artistic Director of Grace & Spiritus Chorale of Brooklyn was the conductor.
"The Reed" was commissioned by Grace & Spiritus Chorale of Brooklyn for the Spring 2010 season. This was a world premiere performance.
