@hungban44 Chiang Kai-Shek wanted to make Japs invade more inland so their mobility/armors would be limited (Jap could use the railroads and deliver their forces directly from north to south by using Beijing-Shanghai/Guangzhou railway) Therefore, instead of reinforcing the Northeastern China, Chiang started the battle around Shanghai, hoping to lead them into mountain region where they could fight with Japs with infantries and artillery
