Aah - genious song! I owned the "Sgt. Pepper" album as a teenager, and "Getting Better" was at that time already one of my favorites - but I only now became aware of many musical niceties. The beat of the cymbal as an example, which comes on the time of the "and" if you count "one - two - three - and-four". And how the bass and the guitars go together in the verse "me used to be an angry young man ..." - divine!

You're right, the world will always be bad in someway regardless of the decade. However, during the 60's a lot of things did get better: Civil rights, Women's liberation, Moon Landing, Amazing films like Kubricks 2001 and not to the mention the great musical artists through the decade. Deep down, in government the world was as bad as it is now but at least people in society were trying and did get a lot accomplished.
