We stayed at the Comfort Inn for $49 and that included breakfast. (NB. this was off-season)

I lived in Corvallis, OR, for 4 years. Newport was our favourite spot to visit any time in the year. My family and myself love Oregon. It is the best place on earth. The Oregon Coast Aquarium is just superb. Regards from Argentina.

Newport is a fun enough place to live, but if you have school age children you're better off in Corvallis because our schools suck. The fishing and crabbing here is off the hook, if you have a boat and a local to show you the ropes. I feel for the poor visitors out on the public pier tossing rings and expecting dungy. The winters get long here though, you can only take the kids to the Aquarium, Ripley's Believe it or Not, and the Wax Museum so many times...lol
