The Pop influences that inspired Ennio Morricone's 'Spaghetti' Western guitar sound!

John Barry fronted a rock dancehall combo in the late 50's. With guitarist Vic Flick he forged the crucial Barry sound of dark beauty and banging reverb chords. English groups often emulated the craze of Rock'n'Roll istrumentals inspired by Film and TV westerns. Here's one of a handful Barry did which head toward the path Ennio will pave.

  • the legendary VIC FLICK . on guitar.. the JOHN BARRY SEVEN laid down some brilliant instrumentals.

  • Very good indeed, the first time I've heard this.

Sounds very similar to a Dick Dale single, but I think John got his version out first.

  • Saw them in Portstewart, N Ireland in 60's brilliant then.

  • I invariably find what I'm looking for here on your channel. Thanks for all the great posts and painstaking information you supply us with. *****

  • I never heard this! About half of it is "The Menace" - which I've sent you as a video response.

I stumbled on this from a couple of LIVE, recent Vic Flick vids that - INCREDIBLY - have been on YouTube for FOUR YEARS, gleaning only a HANDFUL of hits!

    What is WRONG with people?!

  • Can anybody tell me if a guy from Leeds by the name of Dave Thorpe ever played the drums for the John Barry 7?

  • Through the magic of the internet I listened today to John Barry on Desert Island Discs (BBC Radio 4, June 1999). I was disappointed to hear from Barry that he hated the John Barry Seven and all that is stood for. He only did it as a stepping stone to better things. Thanks a lot John. I know the people like me who bought your records and admired you were only punters, but you could have kept your thoughts to yourself.

  • @silvanski Shake & Stomp, yep, that's the one!

  • @Strawberry7Lynn

    "Shake 'n Stomp" indeed

  • Nice, love that trademark pizzicato.

  • Duane Eddy. Say no more.
