Power semiconductors in steering pump motor eventually short. Normally not a problem... BUT these power semicondors have 100 amps of current available even when the car is off.
Sometimes the short does not draw enough current to blow the 100 amp fused link. Instead it will cause the steering motor electrical harness to heat up and possibly catch fire if not caught in time.
Solution is to install a power relay to disconnect the power steering motor B+ terminal when car ignition is off.
