Professor Gause discussed the current political situation on the ground in Iraq, prospects for cooperation and discord among various political parties, militias, and other groups within Iraq, and the likely effects of various American choices in Iraq on both Iraqs future and American interests in the Persian Gulf region.

F. Gregory Gause, III is Professor of Political Science at the University of Vermont and director of the universitys Middle East Studies Program. He was previously on the faculty of Columbia University and was Fellow for Arab and Islamic Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. His articles have appeared in Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, Middle East Journal, Security Studies, and Washington Quarterly. He recently completed a book manuscript on the international politics of the Persian Gulf.

This presentation is part of the Strauss Centers International Security Speaker Series, which features leading scholars and policy practitioners discussing challenges and solutions for meeting the security demands of the modern world.

  • Professor Gause is a brilliant guy and a pretty good man and teacher. For someone with his education level, he has one hell of a sense of humor. I like that.
