★★★★★ How to be American comedy series:
How to be American -- Asians in the Library By Alexandra Wallace UCLA
This is an episode of the How to be American comedy series that hopes to bridge gaps instead of foster chasms. Recently, a young UCLA student, Alexandra Wallace, posted a controversial/insensitive/"racist" video about asian culture and habits. She drew enormous criticism and aroused a lot of "hate" by the on campus and online Asian community.
I feel terrible for her, because a simple mistake could cause so much trouble in her life. She is now withdrawing from UCLA. But the biggest travesty is that there are a lot of people who do think and feel what A. Wallace said, perhaps they don't feel it as negatively as she had, but their sentiment and observation is there. I hope this short episode helps explain some cultural habits to both cultures.
