Crenelated Sidewalk, Indian Hill Road, Riverside, USA.
The road is charming because it has several unusual featuers: It has a raised sidewalk. It's raised approx. 4' above the surface of the street, and the sidewalk's facia is surfaced with rusticated stone. Every 15' or so, a crenelation raises up about 3' and a chain connects them.
Unfortunately, vandals or metal collectors -- perhaps even local residents -- have removed several of the lengths, leaving the edge looking incomplete. The tops of some of the crenelations are crowned with classical-looking concrete pots. A few of these have also been removed.
I often take my girlfriend this way just to experience the beauty of the street; and I wish that Riverside would do two things: erect more such motifs, and repair these.
